6P VARIATIONS IN SCENE&SEQUEL
COURSE OVERVIEW

The purpose of this class is to give you the tools to create interesting scenes and sequels that propel your story, and the reader, to the finish line. In fiction, story scene and sequel have classic structure, but it’s sometimes difficult to see the structural principles in action, especially when there are many variations from the structural norm. Variations can be used to increase drama, add suspense, create a particular pace, or deepen the character. The trick is to know how to change things up and when to do it. My goal is to make variations in scene and sequel structure understandable and with practice the techniques will become second nature to you. Using these techniques can take your writing out of the ordinary and help make your characters and stories truly memorable.

In this class will be working with the following concepts:

  • Overview of basic scene and sequel structure
  • Five Major Variations in Structure,
  • Eleven Specialized Techniques
  • Specialized Techniques 1-5
  • Specialized Techniques 6 - 9
  • Specialized Techniques 10 & 11 and common errors
Because this is an advanced Polish Level Bootcamp, the assumption is that you have a manuscript in progress to work on. It isn’t a necessity to have an MIP, but the benefit when working on the exercises will be much greater if you do.
