2P Deepening Character

The purpose of this class is to give you the tools to create interesting, believable characters that come to life on stage, immediately engage the reader and keep him riveted until the last page of your book. There are many writing “techniques” to assist in this effort but to create truly memorable characters we have to go deeper than technique or style. We have to build the character from the inside out. It’s not an easy task, but then writing isn’t easy. It’s hard. I can’t guarantee this class will make it easier. My goal is to make it understandable and with practice, it will become easier and then, when you succeed in creating characters that readers care about, it will take your writing out of the ordinary and make your characters and stories truly memorable.

In this class will be working with the following concepts:

  • The Character’s Driving Force – the core from which all your characters strengths and weaknesses spring
  • Character Values & Beliefs – why characters operate as the do in the real world.
  • The Character Arc – the protagonist’s emotional journey: going from a place of need to a place of strength.
  • Dynamic Conflict – conflict must have the ability to change, to intensify
